Hi, we’re Craft Republic, an independent craft beer, wine and spirits bar and bottle shop, and home to Barry Island Gin.
Craft Republic started out as an idea several years ago. Like all good things, it’s needed a bit of time to ferment (see what we did there?! 😉 ). Back then the first idea was to open a bottle shop on Barry Island (where we live).
We’re a husband and wife team who love craft beer, good wine and where possible want to support independent businesses. We were constantly reading about exciting new beers on social media and in the press but found it frustrating that we had to travel further afield or wait for beer festivals to try them for ourselves.
A few years ago the social scene in Barry started to change, largely thanks to the Pumphouse development. Shortly after, a friend introduced us to Simon Baston. We like to think we hit it off straight away (he may tell you differently!). We shared our vision with him and although it was right at the start of the Goodsheds journey, when he told us his plans for the site we knew instantly it was the location we’d been waiting for.
Simon’s ambitions to create a modern, urban high street with a strong community at its heart was exactly the type of place that we, as local residents, wanted to go to. So of course we jumped at the chance of being a part of making it happen.
We firmly believe the ethos behind Goodsheds is right for Barry and right for us. It will build on the fantastic foundations already created by the Pumphouse to create a vibrant, exciting and contemporary destination for Wales. We’re incredibly excited to be in The Sidings building and surrounded by such amazing neighbours, we can’t wait to welcome you to our bar!
Craft Republic is a fully independent bar and bottle shop. Our ethos has always been that we want to offer a unique experience that enables our customers to discover great quality, craft products.
We have a 14 line direct draw system pouring a constantly rotating selection of beers, ciders and lagers. We also stock a huge range of craft beer bottles and cans produced by some of the greatest breweries from around the world.
But we’re not just about beer, our wine selection has been carefully curated by us. We can hand on heart say we’ve sampled each variety of wine we stock (that was a really hard job) and think they’re all amazing.
As the home and creators of Barry Island Gin there should be no surprises that we’re huge spirits fans (no we’re not talking about the spooky type – we don’t like them too much). We don’t claim to have the biggest spirits selection but what we have focused on is exceptional quality and we’ve got some incredible gins, whiskies, rums and tequilas for you to try.
Our bar is completely dog friendly. All four-legged friends will be welcomed by our resident bar dog Darcy – our very friendly black Labrador.
When you stop in for a drink you’re more than welcome to bring in food produced by one of our super-talented Goodsheds street food vendors. Whether you opt for pizza, souvlaki or Mexican (or all of them, we wouldn’t blame you) we’ve got the best beverages to perfectly match your choice. Our range is also available to collect and take away.
So whether you’re starting out on your journey of beer discovery, a fully-fledged gin enthusiast, or if you’re simply excited and inspired by great drinks and great experiences – we’ll have something to float your boat.
